Iran Accuses Two French Diplomats in Tehran of “Unacceptable” Conduct

 

Tehran says the actions of two French officials violated diplomatic standards as tensions between Iran and Western countries continue to rise.

TEHRAN — Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has described the conduct of two French diplomats working in Tehran as “unacceptable,” urging Paris to prevent actions that Tehran says violate diplomatic rules.

According to BBC Persian, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said Araghchi raised the issue during a phone conversation on Tuesday with his French counterpart, Jean-Noël Barrot. The two officials also discussed bilateral relations and regional and international issues.

Iran’s foreign ministry said Araghchi criticised the behaviour of the two French diplomats, claiming that their actions did not comply with recognised diplomatic standards and procedures. The ministry did not provide further details about the alleged conduct.

Rising diplomatic tensions

The accusation comes amid growing tensions between Iran and several Western countries, with disputes continuing over security issues, military activities and political developments in the Middle East.

France has not publicly responded to Iran’s accusations, and further details about the incident remain unclear.

Iran claims new regional attacks

The diplomatic dispute comes as tensions in the region continue to escalate.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has announced a new wave of attacks targeting what it described as US-linked facilities in the region. The group claimed that several radar systems in Kuwait were targeted, although the claims have not been independently verified.

Oil prices affected by regional instability

The ongoing tensions in the Middle East have also contributed to rising global oil prices.

Oil markets have reacted to concerns that continued conflict could disrupt energy supplies and threaten important shipping routes. Brent crude prices rose close to $92 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) prices climbed above $84 per barrel.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) said renewed instability in the region has increased concerns over global energy security, although markets remain capable of managing supply pressures due to several supporting factors.

Iran warns countries over military cooperation

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has also warned Bulgaria against allowing the United States to use its military bases for operations targeting Iran.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said any cooperation supporting attacks against Iran would be considered involvement in actions that violate international law.

He described allowing national territory to be used for military operations against another country as a serious violation.

US-Iran tensions continue

Meanwhile, tensions between Iran and the United States remain high.

Donald Trump has warned that the United States could target an underground Iranian facility at Mount Kolang, saying Iran would not be able to prevent such an attack.

Trump also said Iran was interested in negotiations but that Washington would only consider talks if they were “meaningful.”

The latest developments come as Iran and the United States continue exchanging military strikes in the region, while countries including Bahrain and Jordan have reported intercepting missiles launched from Iran.
