Iranian Players Reject Asylum Offered by Australia
Several members of Iran’s women’s football team were offered asylum by Australia after they reportedly refused to carry the national emblem before a match, raising concerns about their safety if they returned to Iran.
Five players were granted humanitarian visas, while two other members of the team also agreed to remain in Australia.
However, one of the players who initially received asylum later decided to return to Iran. Authorities have not revealed the identity of the athlete.
Australia’s Home Affairs Minister, Tony Burke, confirmed that officials were informed of the player’s decision shortly after 10:00 a.m. local time. He emphasized that individuals in Australia are free to change their decisions and travel if they wish.
Cargo Ship Attacked Near the Strait of Hormuz
A cargo vessel near the strategic Strait of Hormuz was struck by what is believed to be a missile or explosive object about 46 km off the coast of the United Arab Emirates.
According to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), the ship suffered some damage, but all crew members were confirmed to be safe.
British authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, while maritime agencies warned ships traveling through the area to proceed with caution.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical shipping routes, particularly for global oil supplies.
Massive Explosions Reported in Beirut
Large explosions were reported in the southern suburbs of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, following new Israeli airstrikes early Wednesday.
Israel has intensified both its air operations and ground movements in Lebanon after the Iran-backed group Hezbollah joined the conflict in support of Iran.
Images circulating on social media showed a massive blast and heavy smoke rising over parts of the city.
Iran Launches New Wave of Attacks
In the past few hours, Iran launched a new wave of attacks targeting sites linked to Israel and the United States across the region.
Iranian state media described the operation as one of the most powerful attacks since the war began.
Israel confirmed detecting missiles launched from Iran but later told residents that they could leave protected shelters after the threat subsided.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia said its air defenses intercepted two drones heading toward an oil facility.
Warning sirens were also heard in Bahrain, which hosts a major U.S. naval base.
Israel Announces New Airstrikes in Lebanon
The Israel Defense Forces said it carried out fresh airstrikes targeting infrastructure used by Hezbollah in southern Beirut.
Israeli officials claim the attacks were aimed at military sites used by the group, which is backed by Iran and has been actively involved in the conflict.
Saudi Arabia Intercepts Missiles and Drones
The Ministry of Defense of Saudi Arabia reported intercepting six ballistic missiles that were heading toward Prince Sultan Air Base.
Air defense forces also shot down several drones, including two near the northeastern city of Hafar Al‑Batin.
Officials did not specify who launched the missiles and drones.
Thousands of Americans Leaving the Middle East
The United States Department of State announced that more than 43,000 U.S. citizens have left the Middle East since the conflict between the United States and Iran began on February 28.
Officials said about 30,000 of those evacuations were assisted by the U.S. government.
More than 20 charter flights have been arranged to evacuate American citizens from the region, though many people chose to leave using regular commercial flights instead.
