The U.S. and Israel view the conflict with Iran as having two main goals: regime change in Iran and stopping its nuclear and missile programs. Achieving these goals is difficult because Iran is a large country with mountains and underground missile facilities.
Iran is estimated to have between 2,500 and 3,000 medium-range missiles, along with short-range missiles and drones. Airstrikes have damaged some facilities, but Iran has been able to rebuild its missile capabilities.
The nuclear program is much harder to dismantle because it relies on large research and production centers. Recent strikes on Isfahan, Natanz, and Fordow damaged some facilities, but it is unclear if Iran’s nuclear capability has been fully halted.
Experts note that even with extensive airstrikes, Iran’s system can rebuild its missile and nuclear programs because the political and strategic principles of its leadership remain unchanged.
