The US Secret Service has suspended one of the agents assigned to protect Vice President JD Vance following allegations that the officer disclosed sensitive information, the agency confirmed.
Details of the alleged leak have not been made public. However, Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said the agent could face a criminal investigation over alleged violations of operational security protocols and rules governing the protection of sensitive information.
“Any conduct that could compromise the safety of a protectee will not be tolerated,” Guglielmi said.
The White House declined to comment on the ongoing investigation.
The development follows reports published last week by MS Now, citing anonymous sources, which claimed that some members of Vance’s security team had privately expressed concerns over travel arrangements involving the vice president’s family.
According to CNN, the suspension is linked to those reports. MS Now reported that some agents questioned plans that allegedly included using a military helicopter to transport the vice president’s young son to a golf practice session, as well as security operations related to the family’s search for a new home near Washington, D.C.
The BBC said it has not been able to independently verify those reports.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no criminal charges have been announced against the suspended agent.
