SEATTLE, Washington – Two people were killed and five others injured after gunfire erupted during a crowded annual food festival in downtown Seattle on Sunday evening, turning a celebration of food, music, and community into a scene of panic and tragedy.
According to emergency officials, the shooting occurred at the popular "Taste of Seattle" festival, an annual event that attracts thousands of visitors, food vendors, families, and tourists from across the region. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots shortly after 6:00 p.m. local time, sending crowds running for safety as chaos spread throughout the festival grounds.
The Seattle Fire Department confirmed that two victims died at the scene, while five others were transported to nearby hospitals with injuries of varying severity. Among the wounded was a two-year-old child, who is reported to be in stable condition, and a 56-year-old woman who suffered critical injuries. Other victims were treated for both serious and minor wounds.
Shortly after the incident, Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson announced that two suspects had been arrested following a rapid response by local law enforcement officers.
"I want to thank the Seattle Police officers who responded immediately to this tragic act of violence and quickly took the two suspects into custody," the mayor said in a public statement.

Witnesses described terrifying scenes as festival-goers fled in every direction after the sound of gunfire echoed through the crowded event. Many people sought shelter behind vendor stalls and nearby buildings while emergency responders rushed to secure the area.
